Bulldogs for a Cure

Last Friday I was asked to represent the survivors of the Waller Chapter of the American Cancer Society.  We got to walk on the football field and accept a check from the high school students.  They sold Breast Cancer Awareness shirts and donated the proceeds to our chapter.  It was a wonderful night.  They had pink ribbons painted on the football field, the cheerleaders wore awareness t-shirts and the boys all had pink ribbons on their helmets.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Breast cancer tends to get the most recognition because it is the most common form of cancer for females.  (Side note: this frustrates my mom who can never find teal ribbon awareness items for cervical cancer.)

I shared the field with a variety of cancer survivors:  breast, pancreas, colon, and cervical and many others stood in the stands when announced.  I wasn't prepared for the huge lump that swelled in my throat as I stood there while everyone applauded our success.  Most noteably, I was amazed at how PROUD my 7 year old daughter was...she was standing up waving her arms to get my attention to make sure that I knew she saw me.  Time stood still for a minute in a year that has flown by for me.  In that moment, I thanked God & begged Him to let me be on that same field 10 years from now watching her cheer or dance or march at her varsity football game.  My one wish is to stay cancer free until I raise my baby girl.

A special thank you to the Waller Bulldogs for their support of cancer awareness.  Go Dawgs Go!
