While we were on vacation - we took a side trip to Jefferson, Texas. What a fun road stop. It was only 12 miles from our tent and Billy's Dad suggested we visit. He went to high school in Jefferson. The town was a typical old Texas town with the courthouse in the center of the town square. There were tons of antique shops and fun girly shops to look in - one even had a "husband couch" in the front where my better half felt honored to sit &wait while I perused the junk.
Perhaps the best find was the pharmacy in this town. It still has a soda fountain in it! I didn't even think these existed anymore. When we were kids and got our immunizations, Mom would always take us to Fairbanks Pharmacy for a milkshake afterwards. After sharing this memory with Kaitlin, we had to belly up to the bar and enjoy a malt, a sundae, and a cone :)
Then we heard someone ask about the General Store, so we trekked around until we found it...it was the actual general store that has remained open since 1830 - hard to believe, but if you saw the inside you would. Hardwood floors, a ladder that rolls across the floor on castors to get objects from the high ceiling areas, also a soda fountain, and every vintage candy or toy
you can imagine!
I love old towns!!!
