We lost our dog two weeks ago Sunday. It was the strangest thing. We were in the yard all day and Kaitlin let her out of her fenced area around noon. She swam in our pond throughout the day and chewed her bone and played with Kaitlin. It was not uncommon for her to run or go take a dip in the pond and come back, so we were not alarmed when she first got out of our eyesight. We grilled for dinner and it was so nice decided to eat outside. When she wasn't at my elbow begging, I realized she was gone and got worried. We called and called, got on the ranger and went up and down the street whistling for her. Kaitlin was hysterical by dark when she still wasn't home. We went to all the neighbors and no one had seen her. Kaitlin cried herself to sleep and the next day I went straight home from work and made big reward signs with Gracies picture. We got a few calls but none of them turned out to be our sweet Gracie.
Gracie was a special dog and Kaitlin's first dog that was all hers. We had Scooby when she was born and she has always thought of Scooby as the family's dog - but Gracie was bought for her and she is just heartbroken. We have all shed many tears and after several weeks now, know that Gracie is gone for good. I am not sure which is harder, losing Gracie or seeing Kaitlin's heart break for the first time
Rest in Peace Sweet Gracie. We all miss you daily.
